Buses lined up outside a school as students board

Welcome to the DDTwo Transportation Department. Our mission is to transport the District's students in the safest, most comfortable manner possible.

We intend the information below to help you and your student understand the safety processes and rules necessary for us to achieve our mission. Please help us with the safety of all students by ensuring your student understands and complies with these safety requirements.

The School District's Behavior Code is in effect for all students at all times when being transported on school buses to and from school or for school activities. This applies from the first day of school through the last day of school. Thus, while a student may lose the privilege to ride the bus due to his or her misconduct on the bus, based on the seriousness of the misconduct, the student may also be disciplined according to the District's Behavior Code, up to and including suspension or recommendation for expulsion. This means the District expects the students’ behavior on the bus to be the same as it expects of them in the classroom.

Common Issues with My Ride K-12

Bus location lagging on the app

The My Ride K-12 smartphone app uses several data sources and media to communicate information to users. Data comes from GPS location and speed calculations, which is processed and transmitted via cellular networks and the internet. That information is then fed into the Traversa routing system, which compares it to the bus run directions and bus stop schedule information. It then calculates estimate time of arrival information and transmits it back through the internet. This is not instantaneous and can be the reason the app displays bus location that is actually lagging behind its actual position location.

Erroneous Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)

When a bus is not moving, the ETA will often be inaccurate, sometimes extremely inaccurate. Unfortunately, when a bus approaches a school, the system is sometimes fooled into believing the route has already started. That’s when My Ride K-12 users can see wrong times like in the example below.

My Ride k-12 Graphic

We encourage parents to compare the scheduled, “normal” pickup or drop-off time to the estimated pickup/drop-off time. In the example above, it shows, “1:42 PM [the updated pickup time] was 2:25 PM” [the scheduled pickup time]. In this case, 2:25 is the normal/scheduled time for bus departure from the school. It includes 10 minutes for loading the bus after dismissal at 2:15 PM. Unless there was a message via the Parent Square system, saying the bus would be leaving school early, this updated pickup time at the school should be considered erroneous. We advise My Ride K-12 users to wait until the scheduled departure time (2:25 PM in the example above) to see what the estimated drop-off time will be.
